The voice of the heartland, John Mellencamp, brings his mixed-media exhibition Paintings & Assemblages to The Mansfield Art Center. A Grammy Award winner and member of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Mellencamp is also an accomplished painter, collector, and activist. Paintings & Assemblages documents America’s heart and soul, exposing unsettling, but beautiful truths with an attitude of defiance, and narrative sensibility. As his musical career flourished, Mellencamp began to paint earnestly in the 1980’s. His affinity for portraiture, influenced by the works of Otto Dix and Max Beckmann, shares a kinship with German Expressionism of the early twentieth century. Like his music, Mellencamp’s paintings are carefully composed through the structural requirements of harmony, rhythm, and order. His large-scale oil portraits and mixed-media pieces examine subjects that speak to the viewer with a voice as powerful as his songs. He has exhibited his work in galleries and museums across the United States including: The Butler Institute of American Art- Yougstown, OH The Tennesse State Museum- Nashville,TN The Museum of Art- Deland, FL ACA Galleries- NY and The Morris Museum of Art- Augusta, GA. June 26 – August 7, 2022 | Mindy Tousley & George Roby | Manifestations in Paper & Clay | Foundation GalleryManifestations in Paper & Clay, explores the friendship between Mindy Tousley & the late George Roby, the synchronicity of their work, and their shared use of abstraction to present their observations and experiences of the world through their art, exemplifying the larger conversation between artists which crosses time. Mindy Tousley, is the Executive Director of The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) and a committed studio artist. Her practice as an artist using paper is influenced by her own background as a ceramicist, and is built around her appreciation for the beauty of the accidental mark or the random act. In this, her approach is very much like Roby’s approach to the clay. Her work is based on her observations of her everyday life, the natural world, and the urban environment, banality, absurdity and ugliness or beauty. She finds joy in creating order out of chaos, unbalancing and rebalancing and then finding the center.

In these unique portraits, I aim to capture emotion and movement in an abstract manner. As a dancer my intention is to bring life to the image through the body language and surrounding atmosphere. I am inspired by the traveling of natural light through time and how it affects the space within the image. Overall, my desire in photography as it is in dance is to choreograph a moment in time that each viewer can either relate to or question.

There will be ocean themed stories, songs, and finger plays great for all young children ages 0-5. Older siblings are welcome to attend.

Join us for a STEM celebration to learn what it takes to become an inventor! We will use the Invention Convention curriculum to teach kids the seven steps of the invention process. The upcoming ARCA Menards Series Dawn 150 race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will kick off a big weekend of racing at the winding 2.258-mile road course located in picturesque Lexington, Ohio. The weekend opener, slated for Friday, July 8, will be followed on Saturday by the closing act of the weekend, the O’Reilly Auto Parts 150, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series’ first-ever race at Mid-Ohio. Fans are invited to the Menards Fan Fest to kick off the weekend at the Menards store located at 1999 Walker Lake Road in Ontario, Ohio on Thursday, July 7 to get up close and personal with the team transporters, race cars, and the drivers prior to the start of on-track activities. The Fan Fest will take place in the Menards parking lot from 3-6 p.m. ET on July 7, with drivers available for autographs and photos from 4-6 pm. At 7 pm ET, the team transporters will then parade from Menards to the track, with the parade started by Ontario mayor Randy Hutchinson and led by police chief Tommy Hill. Not only will fans who attend the Menards Fan Fest be able to meet some of the drivers who will be in competition in the Dawn 150, they will also be able to spin and win product from several ARCA Menards Series partners. Family fun for the entire community while showcasing our unique history. Shelby Bicycle Days is an annual community festival that takes place in the heart of Downtown Shelby. The festival is designed for family fun, while incorporating the history of Shelby Bikes that were once manufactured by the Shelby Cycle Company. The festival has taken place for more than 25 years in Richland County. Each year a group of Shelby residents, help to plan a festival that includes signature events like the Shelby Bicycle Days Parade, Spokes4Kids Community Challenge and the area’s best firework display.  The event takes place annually in early to mid-July in Black Fork Commons. Summer Concert Series | Every Friday, July 1 – August 19 | FREE Join us on Friday evenings this summer for an evening of music & art.  Music will be hosted in our Three Season Pavilion and our Galleries will be open as well. Friday, July 1 – AFM 159 Concert Band The 52-member Concert Band, under the direction of Michael Grady, performs traditional marches, overtures, show tunes and light classics. Members of the band include professional musicians, educators, businessmen and women and students from the surrounding area. Friday, July 8 – Steve Brown & Friends Led by local educator and keyboard player/vocalist Steve Brown, this 6-piece band performs jazz standards, 50’s rock and roll and mellow classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s. Friday, July 15 – Suburban Brass Led by Ken Holzworth, this is a brass quintet plus one and includes two trumpets, French Horn, trombone, tuba and percussion. They will play light classics and instrumental pop. All are current or former members of the Mansfield Symphony. Friday, July 22 – AFM 159 Big Jazz BandUnder the direction of Shelby resident Paul Martin, the 17-piece Big Jazz Band performs the music of Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller and many others. The group also features original compositions and arrangements by Paul Martin and other members of the band. Friday, July 29 – Stardust Band Also led by Paul Martin, Stardust performs jazz standards from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. This self-described “mini-big Big Band” consists of three trombones, two saxes and rhythm section. Friday, August 5 – David Berry Band David Berry is a young guitar player and singer from Ashland who normally performs traditional country music as a solo artist. For this concert he will be joined by four other musicians. If you like the music of Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, you will love this group. Friday, August 12 – Percy Hall Band We welcome back to Mansfield the Percy Hall Dance Orchestra. Since the passing of legendary Percy Hall four years ago, his son John Hall from Columbus is now leading this band. This 7-piece group performs tunes from the 30’s-50’s and features all of Percy’s original arrangements. Friday, August 19 – Ribticklers The final concert will feature the popular Ribticklers Dixieland Band, under the direction of Ralph Thauvette. This 5-piece group will delight the audience with the music of New Orleans.

Mindy Tousley, is the Executive Director of The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR) and a committed studio artist. Her practice as an artist using paper is influenced by her own background as a ceramicist, and is built around her appreciation for the beauty of the accidental mark or the random act. In this, her approach is very much like Roby’s approach to the clay. Her work is based on her observations of her everyday life, the natural world, and the urban environment, banality, absurdity and ugliness or beauty. She finds joy in creating order out of chaos, unbalancing and rebalancing and then finding the center.

In these unique portraits, I aim to capture emotion and movement in an abstract manner. As a dancer my intention is to bring life to the image through the body language and surrounding atmosphere. I am inspired by the traveling of natural light through time and how it affects the space within the image. Overall, my desire in photography as it is in dance is to choreograph a moment in time that each viewer can either relate to or question.

You’ll be using tools and supplies similar to those pictured, along with some warm water, and some elbow grease! These fancy flowers are perfect for wardrobe and accessory embellishments, table decor, jewelry and more. Locks of fiber can be needle felted on after your flower has dried, if desired. Beaded stamens or felted buttons can also be used to add more detail and some sparkle.This class includes materials to make as many flowers as you are able during our class time. Paintings & Assemblages documents America’s heart and soul, exposing unsettling, but beautiful truths with an attitude of defiance, and narrative sensibility. As his musical career flourished, Mellencamp began to paint earnestly in the 1980’s. His affinity for portraiture, influenced by the works of Otto Dix and Max Beckmann, shares a kinship with German Expressionism of the early twentieth century. Like his music, Mellencamp’s paintings are carefully composed through the structural requirements of harmony, rhythm, and order. His large-scale oil portraits and mixed-media pieces examine subjects that speak to the viewer with a voice as powerful as his songs. Paintings & Assemblages documents America’s heart and soul, exposing unsettling, but beautiful truths with an attitude of defiance, and narrative sensibility. As his musical career flourished, Mellencamp began to paint earnestly in the 1980’s. His affinity for portraiture, influenced by the works of Otto Dix and Max Beckmann, shares a kinship with German Expressionism of the early twentieth century. Like his music, Mellencamp’s paintings are carefully composed through the structural requirements of harmony, rhythm, and order. His large-scale oil portraits and mixed-media pieces examine subjects that speak to the viewer with a voice as powerful as his songs.
